History

The predecessor company, GeoEye was formed in January 2006 when Virginia-based ORBIMAGE purchased the assets of Colorado-based Space Imaging, which began performing geospatial services for the U.S. government in July 1987. In December 2010, GeoEye purchased SPADAC, a Virginia-based geospatial predictive analytics company. GeoEye Analytics provides geospatial predictive analytic solutions to over 40 customers in key markets including defense, intelligence and homeland security.

On January 31, 2013, DigitalGlobe and GeoEye combined, building a company that brings a comprehensive suite of geospatial information products and services to help customers solve an increasingly complex array of problems.

GeoEye Foundation

In March 2007, the Company formed the GeoEye Foundation. The Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded on the belief that we have an opportunity to share our technology and resources to help train others to map, measure and monitor the Earth. The Foundation makes awards to students, universities and non-governmental organizations that use satellite imagery in their research. Students have used our imagery for archeology, land cover assessment, climate change, forestry, geospatial intelligence and many other studies. Non-governmental organizations have used our imagery for humanitarian relief and disaster response.
