Featured High Resolution Imagery › 2009 National Cherry Blossom Festival. Washington D.C., USA
This half-meter resolution image shows Washington D.C. during the 2009 National Cherry Blossom Festival. The GeoEye-1 satellite collected the image on April 4, 2009 during the Peak Blooming period for the white-pink colored cherry trees along the tidal basin. The 16-day event attracted a number of cars, buses and people visiting the National Monuments as seen up and down the Mall in the full image. The image has been rotated counter-clockwise, 90 degrees, for optimal viewing. (click to download)
