About This Image
This one-meter resolution image shows the General DeWitt Spain Airport. This civil, public airport is located five miles (8 km) northwest of the central business district of Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. It is owned and operated by the Memphis - Shelby County Airport Authority. The image was taken on April 18, 2006, approximately five years before the great Mississippi River flood of 2011 crested on May 11, 2011. This imagery is especially useful when compared to the “post-flood” image collected May 10, 2011 showing the same area. The comparison images could be used to detect change, assess and measure damage to buildings, facilities, runways and other structures. It could also be used for disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts.
