About This Image

Bismarck, North Dakota (before controlled flooding) This half-meter resolution image was taken on November 12, 2010 by the GeoEye-1 satellite. The image shows the Missouri River and adjacent neighborhood just north of Bismarck, North Dakota before news agencies reported the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began managing the controlled release of water from the Garrison Dam Spillway gates on June 3, 2011. This imagery is especially useful when compared to the “during controlled flooding” image collected June 3, 2011 showing the same area. The comparison images could be used to detect change, assess and measure damage to buildings, facilities, runways and other structures. They could also be used for disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts.

Publishing Guidelines: When publishing a GeoEye satellite image in print, electronically, or via broadcast, proper attribution is required for every use while displayed. Credit guidelines include: "GeoEye," "Satellite image by GeoEye" or "Courtesy of GeoEye." Details...
