About This Image

GeoEye is releasing this half-meter resolution, satellite image showing the construction progress and finishing touches being made to London’s 2012 Olympic Stadium and other Olympic Park venues. The image was collected by the GeoEye-1 satellite on May 25, 2012, or approximately two months before the Opening Ceremony is scheduled to begin on July 27, 2012. GeoEye is a leading source of geospatial information and insight for decision makers and analysts who need a clear understanding of our changing world to protect lives, manage risk and optimize resources. The company’s satellites deliver the world’s highest resolution and most accurate commercial imagery, along with far-reaching expertise in production and analytics. Significant landscape changes and construction progress are readily apparent when this image is compared to a series of images taken over the last decade. GeoEye tasked its GeoEye-1 satellite to collect this image while flying 681 km (423) miles above the Earth at an average speed of 17,000 mph (four miles per second.) Mandatory photo credit, “GeoEye satellite image.”
