Elevation Models Expertise
DigitalGlobe is able to produce digital terrain data anywhere
in the world. A digital terrain model (DTM) is a digital file consisting of terrain
elevations for ground positions at regularly spaced horizontal intervals. Using
this digital terrain data, our experts can generate three-dimensional graphics that
display the slope of a terrain and the direction of that slope, as well as profile
of the terrain between select points.
DTMs can create a dramatic hybrid of digital images and enhanced visual information
when used in combination with digital raster graphics, digital line graphs, and
digital orthorectified imagery. From this imagery, our experts can extract and revise
data in order to provide more accurate information. For projects that call for nongraphic
applications, DigitalGlobe's terrain modeling data can be used for a wide range of commercial
purposes, from searching for energy resources and calculating the volume of proposed
reservoirs, for example, to determining landslide probability.
