Damage:
Fort Worth, Texas This one-meter resolution black-and-white image
of Fort Worth, Texas was taken by the IKONOS satellite on March
29, 2000 at approximately 10:30 a.m. The image, part of our special
feature highlighting disaster
assessment applications, shows damage to buildings that resulted
from tornadoes that struck the area March 28, 2000. Parking lots
are devoid of any cars due to evacuation of the area. Note the damaged
tractor trailers and vehicles in the parking lot of the large building
with the damaged roof. This type of imagery could be used to assess
and measure damage to buildings, facilities, roads and highways,
utility networks and other structures. It could also be used for
disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts.
