Himalayas This four-meter resolution color image highlights the high
mountains and glaciers of the Himalayas near Mount Everest. Space
Imaging's IKONOS satellite collected this image October 9, 1999.
The first climbers of the millenium summited the
29,035 foot peak May 16. Among the first climbers to the top was
the first Scottish woman. Climbers pushed through knee-deep snow
to reach the world's highest summit from both the traditional South
route and the more difficult North face. More information can be
