Environmental
applications for imagery range from habitat analysis and
wetlands characterization to land management and change
detection.
Imagery
from GeoEye satellite and aerial sources has a wide variety
of environmental monitoring applications, including monitoring of agriculture and forestry resources, land use and ecosystems; land characterization; wetlands
classification; and brownfield identification.

GeoEye
provides both government and private sector scientific and
environmental organizations with satellite imagery useful
for insurance risk evaluation, natural disaster assessment,
global change studies, environmental impact studies, pollution
monitoring and other applications.
OrbView-2
image useful for monitoring ocean conditions
OrbView-2
image facilitates location of sediment
Our OrbView-2 satellite, currently in service, provides multispectral
imagery of the Earth valuable for several environmental monitoring
applications. For example, OrbView-2's ability to measure
phytoplankton and sediment concentration in oceans and inland
lakes is useful for environmental applications such as coastal
pollution monitoring and "red-tide" tracking.
The high-spatial resolution of the IKONOS satellite
is useful in assessing the damage from natural disasters
such as floods, forest fires, earthquakes and severe storms.
This imagery may be useful in evaluating the environmental
impact of industrial activities such as mining and also planning
remediation efforts.
Benefits include: Environmental
agencies will be able to monitor subtle changes
in the health of land and ocean regions using
OrbView-2's eight imaging channels The
high-revisit frequency of IKONOS helps emergency
response agencies assess a disaster site and plan rescue activities
